Margaret Barton

The Opal Reel

2013

About the artist

Margaret usually begins her paintings by outlining the frame of a house on paper, and then fills in and over with her wonderful blending of colours and shades of paint. Having experienced significant vision loss in recent years, Margaret now paints intuitively, using memories to inspire paintings of visual imagery from her past. She enjoys applying gradations of paint on the paper and the scratchy textural process of applying brushstrokes. Margaret has good literacy and numeracy skills, and one of her other favourite activities is bead-making, which involves counting and threading. Margaret picks the beads out the container and places them against her cheek to check their size and shape.
