Improving People with Intellectual Disability’s Understanding of Health Information

Researchers from 3DN and UNSW’s School of Education are doing a research study.

They want to know how health information can be shown so that people with intellectual disability can understand the information better.

They are now looking for people with intellectual disability to take part.

Who can take part?

People who:

  1. Have an intellectual disability,
  2. Are 18 years of age or older,
  3. Are able to read simple English, and
  4. Live in Sydney and can come to the campus of UNSW Sydney to be part of the research.

People cannot be part of the study if they:

  1. Have vision problems that stop them from being able to read information in simple English, or
  2. Need support from another person to read information in simple English.

What does taking part involve?

The study will involve going to UNSW Sydney 2 times. You will be asked to come at the same time and day of the week for 2 weeks in a row.

Each time, the researchers will ask people with intellectual disability to:

  • Read some information about a health topic
  • Answer some questions about the health topic

People who take part in the study will receive a $50 Coles-Myer gift card each time they go to UNSW Sydney to take part. People who take part in both sessions will receive a total of $100 in Coles-Myer gift cards.

You can find more information in the Participant Information Statements.
