3DN submission on the Exposure Draft of the Disability Inclusion Bill 2014

3DN have made a submission on the Exposure Draft of the Disability Inclusion Act 2014 in January advocating for consideration of people with an intellectual disability.

The Exposure Draft was released for consultation as part of the review of the Disability Services Act 1993,  to which 3DN also contributed a submission. According to Minister Ajaka, "the draft Bill is intended to replace the NSW Disability Services Act 1993 and proposes a rights-based inclusion framework that moves us away from historical, highly regulated services."  The Disability Services Act 1993 was reviewed once in the 20 years it was in place, this was in 1999. One of our recommendations calls for repeated review, in order that the legislation enacted reflects the landscape of the disability sector, which is likely to change dramatically over the coming years with the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme/ Agency. To read all of our recommendations please see the attached report.

The NSW Department of Family & Community Services, Ageing, Disability & Home Care (ADHC) is seeking submissions on the draft until 14 February 2014. For more information visit the ADHC webpage:
