Using Big Data to examine the health and wellbeing of people with intellectual disability
The Department of Intellectual Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN), in collaboration with the Centre for Big Data Research in Health (CBDRH), is looking for one or more PhD scholars of exceptional quality to undertake a multi-disciplinary project which will create a large linked data infrastructure to enable the interrogation of health service use, pathways, costs of health care and outcomes of people with intellectual disability (ID) in NSW. The project will assemble the largest and most comprehensive linked dataset relating to health profiles of people with ID internationally, an enduring resource to examine service use and associated costs. Findings will inform policy and practice for people with ID to ensure that health gains are shared by everyone and across every community in NSW, which is a priority in the State health plan.
The candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team with expertise in Epidemiology, Clinical Psychiatry and Biostatistics and will be involved in data linkage and other analyses related to the project. The supervisory team consists of Professor Julian Trollor, Chair of Intellectual Disability Mental Health and Head of 3DN; Dr Simone Reppermund, Senior Lecturer at 3DN and Associate Professor Claire Vajdic, Head of the Cancer Epidemiology Research Unit at CBDRH.
UNSW Scientia PhD scholars are awarded a prestigious scholarship package of $50,000 per annum, comprising a tax-free living allowance of $40,000 per annum for 4 years, and a support package of up to $10,000 per annum to provide financial support for career development activities.
