The School of Psychiatry is widely reputed as the pre-eminent psychiatric research department in the country, and one of the leading university groups internationally. The main administrative unit is located within the Black Dog Institute at Randwick. It participates in teaching UNSW’s undergraduate medical students and administers post-graduate research and coursework programs.

The Data Analyst will be based in the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry, which was set up by the inaugural Chair in Intellectual Disability Mental Health at UNSW to generate translational research, workforce capacity and advocacy in the area of intellectual disability mental health. Working with government and other stakeholders, the Department conducts translational research on the neuropsychiatry of intellectual and developmental disabilities, and seeks to improve both policy and services in this area through education and training of health professionals.

About the role

  • Fixed Term for 12 months with excellent prospects of renewal for up to three years
  • Part-time 0.5FTE
  • Possibility of combining a PhD experience with the data analyst role will be considered

The Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry seeks to appoint a Data Analyst to work on the Improving the Mental Health Outcomes of People with Intellectual Disability funded by NHMRC Partnerships for Better Health Grant. The position will assist with conducting analyses using linked data from the Intellectual Disability Mental Health Data Linkage. The aim of the data linkage is to interrogate the annualised linkage of administrative minimum datasets to enable a detailed examination of mortality, health and mental health profiles and service utilisation, patterns of cross-sector services provision including specific gaps, the impact of recent services initiatives for people with intellectual disability, and to enable development of intellectual disability mental health services in NSW. About you

To be successful in this role you will

  • Post-graduate qualifications in statistics, biostatistics, computer sciences or epidemiology, preferably with an understanding of health service utilisation issues. Previous extensive research experience in this or another field will be favourably considered.
  • Demonstrated high level research and data analysis skills
  • Demonstrated experience with SAS
  • Previous experience in statistical analysis of epidemiological would be an advantage, as would knowledge of statistical and/or database software, such as R, STATA or SQL
  • Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
