The course aims to further health professionals’ understanding of the experiences of the carers of people with intellectual disability and how to support them.
It covers topics such as:
- what is meant by ‘carer’ and understanding the roles of carers of people with intellectual disability
- the challenges facing carers of people with intellectual disability, including factors that increase these challenges and their impact on carer wellbeing
- ways in which health professionals can support carers
- key demographic considerations and the way that they can impact supporting carers
