My name is Nick. I'm 45 and lead a very independent life. I have a job in the Cattery at the Balmain Veterinary Hospital.
I live in my own apartment in the family home. I sleep there, watch TV and play my games there. I could cook in my kitchen but I don’t – it’s easier eating with Mum & Dad or getting takeaway.
One of my favorite local take aways is Fat Fish where I'm called "Farm Boy" by John and his brother Manny, the owners.
Everyday I get a hot chocolate before I go to work from my local cafe, Revolver. I get my lunch there too.
I walk every day and sometimes take my dog, Honey. My aim is 15,000 steps per day. I'm very well known in the inner west of Sydney - I know my community and they know me.
If I'm walking I'm hard to miss as I love to sing along with the songs on my playlist....loudly.
I always look forward to the weekends. Footy games at the SCG are a must - I'm a Swans supporter for 20 years.
Weekends are mine to do as I please.....I love going to the pubs in Balmain and catching up with my friends, dancing and singing along with the bands or the DJ. I have about 4 or 5 pubs i go to....these places and these people are "my" community; I am included. I sleep in til late on Saturday and Sunday.
I love the UpClub too...I have been a member since it was started 30 years ago by Down Syndrome NSW. Most days, after work, I have an UP Club video conference plus we do face to face meetings on weekends at pubs, at events, at camps, and sometimes for meals.
I haven't even talked about my family or my 30 cousins who live mostly in Brisbane or my favorite holidays.
Life is good, hell yeah.
