New e-Learning module is now available for disability professionals

“Supporting Mental Health in People with Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorders”

The module aims to further disability professionals’ understanding of autism spectrum disorder in people with intellectual disability and of the adaptations that may be considered when providing mental health support.

It covers topics such as:

  • What autism spectrum disorder is
  • Communication and socialising
  • Sensory sensitivities
  • Factors that may affect mental health in a person with intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder
  • Signs of mental illness in a person with intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder

The e-learning site www.idhealtheducation.edu.au was launched in 2013 to educate people about intellectual disabilities and mental health. The modules have been developed by The Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN) and funded by Ageing Disability and Home Care, Family and Community Services.
